Fawaz Bokhari is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Punjab - College of Information Technology (P.U.C.I.T). He is a Fulbright scholar and was awarded this scholarship in 2007 for his PhD studies in United States. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Arlington (Prof. Gergely Zaruba) in 2012.

He has served as a session chair for "Ad Hoc and Sensor Networking Symposium (AHSN)", IEEE Globecom December 2011 and has reviewed several journals and conference papers like Computer Communications (COMCOM), Journal of Engineering and Computer Innovations (JECI), ICC 2012, ISWCS 2010, CyberC 2010, VTC 2009 & 2010, WoWMoM 2009. He has also served as a member for the Fulbright Scholarship selection committee in Pakistan for the year 2009 and 2012.

He is a member of IEEE, and OCP.

Research Interests

Dr. Fawaz research interests include network protocols design (Layer 2,3 & 4 of TCP/IP stack) for wireless and wired networks, wireless multimedia communication, wireless mesh networks for developing regions, network monitoring and deployment, TCP and routing for datacenters, cloud computing and mobile computing.

Specialties

Wireless adhoc, mesh and sensor networks, security, pervasive and ubiquitous computing, mobile computing, cloud computing, communication protocols, web services, database, distributed systems, and industry automation.

  • Going to Madrid, Spain on 3rd of June, 2013 to present my paper at the IEEE HotMesh workshop co-located with IEEE WoWMoM 2013.

  • I am Publicity chair of PerCom 2014.

  • My book chapter proposal “Routing Techniques in Data Centers" along with Shaista Habib and Dr. Samee U. Khan has been accepted in Data Centers book, to be published by Springer 2013.

  • One of our paper “ i- POCA: Interference-aware Partially Overlapping Channel Assignment in 802.11-based Meshes ” got accepted in IEEE WoWMoM 2013 conference to be held in Madrid, Spain, June 4-7, 2013 .

  • I have received Internet Society (ISOC) award to participate in 2013-Next Generation Leaders e-Learning course "Shaping the Internet - History and Futures" starting from 27th of May, 2013.

  • Received a generous funding from Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educational grant for my upcoming "Cloud Computing" course to be offered in Spring 2013 semester.

  • I am awarded Internet Society (ISOC) fellowship to attend IETF 87 th meeting on 28th of June, 2013 at Berlin, Germany.

  • I have served as a member for the Fulbright Scholarship selection committee in Pakistan for 2012.

  • Our book chapter “Partially Overlapping Channel Assignments in Wireless Mesh Networks ", got published in the book Wireless Mesh Networks-Efficient Link Scheduling, Channel Assignment and Network Planning Strategies, edited by Dr. Andrey V. Krendzel - ISBN 978-953-51-0672-2, 2012.

  • My journal paper: "On the Use of Smart Ants for Efficient Routing in Wireless Mesh Networks", along with Dr. Gergely Zaruba got published in the International Journal of Wireless & Mobile Networks (IJWMN). Vol. 4, No. 2, pp. 117-134, 2012.

  • I have been selected to receive NSF student travel grant to attend and present my poster at the IEEE PerCom 2011 conference.

  • I have served as a Session chair for IEEE Globecom 2011, "Ad Hoc and Sensor Networking Symposium (AHSN)", December 2011.
